So we as our church’s Bus Team were challenged and motivated by your recent video episode on COVID-19. During this lockdown directive given by our state’s governor, our pastor has directed us to refrain from visiting the kids or picking them up for church (there is no physical church right now). However, seeing the great need of these kids who live in dire spiritual and physical conditions (surrounded by drugs, alcohol, immorality, abusive parents, fighting, fear, anxiety), we have been motivated to do something to continue to reach out to them. With the amount of idle time they have, they will fill their time with video games, screen time, and even inappropriate viewing. To counteract this, we want to feed them spiritual food and continue to “Konnect” to these Kids!
So God gave us some ideas to implement. Hopefully we can pull some of these off; definitely, it will be a lot of work. But, through time with God, He has really given us confidence that this is His will, and so through Him, we believe we can do the impossible (Luke 18:27)!! I have recently been getting transparent with my authorities, praying for revival and reading His Word diligently. His will is for these kids to grow and blossom in the Lord, and I pray that God will use us to see them become disciple-makers!
IDEAS FOR BUS ROUTE!!!
1. Bible Read Relay (BRR):
- Devos competition during lockdown.
- We can have prize for persons that memorize most verses, read most consistently.
2. One-on-One Bus Konnect:
- Personal Zoom chats for encouragement; girls-with-girls; guys-with-guys
- Personal Texts to bus kids with Bible studies, MREs, Bible verses, encouragement
3. Digital Discipleship
- Weekly Bus kids video: Make a video as bus workers say “hey” and each encourage the kids to do one thing (devos, obey parents, memorize verses, introduce a challenge, skit, read Bible).
- Discipleship Videos going through Spiritual MREs posted on YT, Vimeo, or sent individually to kids
- Video Skits with Bible application
4. BusBibleTime (BBT)
- Do a BusBibleTime (BBT) podcast for them every week, going over relevant spiritual matters: obey parents, drugs/alcohol, cheating, music, church attendance, speech, fruit of spirit, anxiety, depression, anger, violence, forgiveness, God, Jesus, Bible reading, prayer, God of comfort (two or three people for variety)
5. Snail Mail or E-mail
- Physically mail out Bible studies and Spiritual MRE’s—work through them on Zoom
- E-mail/text materials
6. Netcast through the Network; Teaching through Tech; Winning through the Web
- Develop Interactive Bible Website—bible stories, games, challenges, memory verse competition (appropriate for by kids ages 6-17)
- Develop Interactive Bible App—reading competitions, rewards (appropriate for by kids ages 6-17)
8. After COVID-19 Dies Down…
- Give kids work opportunities
- Go out fishing, out to eat with them, ice cream store, go out soul-winning with them
- Playing basketball with them
- Invite over to our house
- Do a Hotdog Blast Stand in park for evangelism; have current bus kids help us serve food.
