Have you ever wanted to share the gospel but felt uncertain about what to say or how people might respond? You’re not alone! Many Christians struggle with fear or uncertainty when it comes to telling others about Jesus. But the truth is, sharing the gospel is not only a responsibility—it’s a privilege and a joy!
The Greatest News in the World
The word “gospel” simply means “good news.” And what is this good news? It’s the greatest news on earth: that although we are sinners who deserve judgment, Jesus Christ died for us, rose again, and offers eternal life as a free gift to all who trust Him.
Jesus commanded us in Mark 16:15, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” This command is for every believer. If you are saved, you have a message to share!
Overcoming Fear in Evangelism
Fear often holds us back from sharing the gospel. We wonder:
- What if they reject me?
- What if I don’t know what to say?
- What if I say the wrong thing?
But fear is never a good reason to disobey God. Remember the story of Peter walking on water? As long as he kept his eyes on Jesus, he did the impossible. But the moment he focused on the storm, he began to sink (Matthew 14:28-31).
The same is true for us. If we focus on fear, we’ll shrink back. But if we focus on Christ and the power of the gospel, we can boldly share our faith.
A Simple Plan for Sharing the Gospel
Not sure where to start? Here’s a simple, three-step approach you can use:
1. Everyone Is a Sinner
The first thing people need to understand is their need for salvation. The Bible says in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
Most people recognize that they’ve done wrong, but they may not realize how serious sin is. Revelation 21:8 makes it clear that sin leads to eternal separation from God: “All liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone.” Even a single lie is enough to condemn us!
2. Sin Brings Judgment
Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death.” This means that because of our sin, we deserve both physical death and eternal separation from God in hell.
God is holy and cannot allow sin into His presence. However, He is also merciful and provided a way for us to be saved.
3. Jesus Paid for Our Sin
The best part of the gospel is that Jesus took our place! Hebrews 9:26 says, “But now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself.”
When Jesus died on the cross, He paid the full price for our sin. Isaiah 53:6 explains this beautifully: “The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” He was buried, and three days later, He rose again—proving that He had conquered sin, death, and hell!
Now, salvation is available to all who believe in Him. John 3:16 makes it clear: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
How to Lead Someone to Christ
Once a person understands these truths, they need to make a decision. Will they continue trusting in their own efforts, or will they trust Jesus alone to save them?
Salvation is not about working harder or being “good enough.” It’s about trusting in what Christ has already done. Just like a drowning man must stop struggling and trust a lifeguard to save him, a lost sinner must stop trying to save himself and fully trust Jesus.
Romans 10:9 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”
Encourage the person to pray and express their faith in Jesus. It’s not a prayer that saves, but faith in Christ. You can guide them to say something like this:
“Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and deserve judgment. But I believe You died for me, were buried, and rose again. Right now, I place my full trust in You alone to save me. Thank You for your gift of eternal life. Amen.”
Start Sharing Today!
If you are saved, you have a story to tell! Tell others how Jesus saved you. Share these three simple truths:
- All are sinners.
- Sin brings judgment.
- Jesus paid the price, and salvation is a free gift through faith.
You don’t have to be an expert—just be willing! Ask God for boldness, and start sharing the greatest news in the world. Someone around you needs to hear it. Will you tell them?
