Wayne Van Gelderen: I'm thankful for the godly home that I grew up in. They protected me from much, but I was in high school in the late 60s, and our whole nation was turned upside down. You think it's turned upside down now?
was turning upside down then. And I went to the public school, and so I was under a lot of pressure at that time. And the youth group where my parents moved to in Chicago was not a good youth group, and the peer group pressure was really bearing in on me.
And God had worked in my heart as a young
man to serve the Lord as a pastor, but a lot of that had been forgotten, and I was just under the pressures that were there. And through some answers to prayer, I got to spend three weeks with my parents traveling into Europe and then a Bible Lance trip. And it was there that God awakened me.
And then when I came back, I gave my life to the Lord as a 15-year-old. And I was
very serious about surrendering to the Lord. My parents had taught me to have a time with the Lord every day. It was very perfunctory because I had to do it.
But the minute I gave my life to
the Lord, with the help of now a godly youth pastor, I began to realize that my time with the Lord was going to be the key to having sustained victory. And I'll never forget, I made a decision. You have to make a very definite decision.
I made a strong decision
to get up earlier and spend an extended time with the Lord. And I can see in my mind's eye right now the very place where I would have devotions. And I'm telling you young people, 15-year-olds, 16-year-olds, 17-year-olds, 12-year-olds can meet with the Lord.
And God began to change my life there in those early morning sessions. And because my parents had just made it a way of life, I was consistent, not always consistent in the extended time and really meeting with the Lord, but most of the time I was. And I give my parents a big thank you for what they had put in me that way.
But the decision to spend time with the Lord
was key. And let me just tell you, young people, the Bible means what it says there in Galatians 5.16. If you walk in the Spirit, ye shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.
The Spirit, what's the Spirit's first name? Holy Spirit. And who does he make real in our life?
You've heard it over and over. Jesus Christ, the perfect Son of God. And so what we're talking about is not theory.
We're not talking about some kind of philosophy. We're talking about something as real as you're sitting here today The Spirit of God indwells you if you're saved, and Jesus can become a very real part of your life, and you can be transformed in a very wicked day, but you've got to spend time with God. And so what I'm going to talk to you about is not a small matter.
It is the key to staying right with God, to growing in the Lord, to every day awaken to the fact I need Him, and that I can be filled with the Spirit. And I can tell you as a teenager, man, there were some really sweet times. Because going to the public school in those days, it was just turmoil.
But God met with me, and God wants to meet with you. Each of you are equally important to God, and He does want to walk with you in your life. Turn with me to John chapter 15.
I'm going to look at this just for a moment, then I'm going to give you some help in this matter of how to spend an extended time with the Lord. And I tell you, young people, if you will make that solid decision to do it, even if you know you've got struggles, and right now you have some hopelessness in your life and you feel like a hypocrite, if you'll seek the Lord, you will find him.
If you're serious about it, God will help you. You've heard many a testimony how God does work in your life. In John chapter 15, I'm not going to exposit this.
This is a wonderful passage on abiding in the vine. And in this passage, Jesus said, I am, and that's the term for deity, I am the vine. Jesus is the vine and we're the branches and branches are part of the vine.
You think about that. So the minute you were saved, the Bible says you were placed into Christ. and Christ came into you.
I am in him, he is in me. I am now joined as though I am the vine,
I'm part of the vine, I'm a branch. And the life of the vine, the coming from the roots, goes into the branch, and then the branch bears, has the fruit and all the leaves and everything income because of the life of the vine. Now we are attached to the vine our entire eternal life.
We are in him and he is in us. But we can live independent of that and that's when our lives become worthless, hopeless, empty, and so forth. But the fact is you are connected to Christ.
It's a wonderful truth. If you look with me in verse 5, I am the vine, ye are the branches. He that abideth in me and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit.
Now note the next part of the verse. For without me ye can do, what would the opposite of that be? With me you can do everything.
You can bear much fruit. You say, you know, Pastor Van Gelderen, I have such limitations. I don't have a good background.
I can't talk. I can't do different things. you know, I don't think I can be used of God.
You have no idea what God can do because God's not
looking for you. He's wanting to just, you to allow him to show forth his greatness. Honestly, I knew Bobby Bosler when he came into college and other people.
And there's a transformation
that takes place that is supernatural. And God wants that for every one of you. The word abide simply means remain, continue, be dependent upon.
In other words, instead of depending on yourself, depend upon and stay in fellowship with. And that's what we're going to talk about today. Stay in fellowship with the Lord.
Stay dependent upon him. And then you look at verse 7. If ye keep this continuing remaining relationship in me, and my words abide, stay in you, ye shall ask what you will.
Wow. It shall be done unto you. Young people, God answers prayer.
God will answer your prayer. God will give you victory. God will meet your needs.
God will give you provision. God will give you wisdom. You will begin to communicate with the creator of the universe.
Your mind and heart will open up as to the reality of what eternal life is all about. You'll be able to look at the whole world situation and what's happening in our nation. Instead of being fearful, you'll realize this is exactly what the Bible predicted.
And I am here right now for the purpose of reaching this world. And you'll begin to get a very explosive vision for your life because of that. and folks this all comes through spending time with him that's the decision you've got to make just think god wants to man you'd be thrilled if some high official that you thought well of wanted to ask you to come and say i just want to fellowship with you i would use the president
but i won't use that one uh but you know maybe your governor maybe that's not good uh for some of you in your states. I know that's not so hot. But, you know, somebody that you really admired spending some time.
The King of Kings and Lord of Lords wants
to spend time with you today. And you can go right to the throne. And so this is wonderful.
And I'm going to
right now just talk about how you can spend an hour with God. You say, I wouldn't know what to do. You know, I'm trying to pray and I look at my watch and, man, I thought I prayed 20 minutes.
It's only five minutes.
Ever been there? Well, this little outline we're going to give you that comes basically out of the Lord, the model prayer that the Lord gives that we call the Lord's Prayer, this layout gives you specific ways to pray through an extended time. And you will find it will open up your relationship to the Lord in a wonderful way.
Now if you'll take your orange books, how many of you have
Christ's Walk journals? Do you have them with you? Okay, if you have your Christ's Walk journal, you can look at the first page of the second section as far as the outline.
You know where the diary is
and then you know the helps are right after that page. But if you have the orange, the very first page is the outline that we're going to look at. Okay, the outline.
And there it is. And then you have three weeks worth of diary pages that are very key for your walk with the Lord. And then there's not pagination here, so you just have to sort of put something in there maybe so you can keep going back to it.
But right after the diary, you'll
see connected with the first six sections some helps for you. For instance, it starts with the worship and praise section. And yeah, you can see it there behind me.
And so you'll have to flip back and forth there when I
talk about it. And hopefully you can keep your finger in there or have a little bookmark or something and we'll go back and forth. And they'll have it up on the screen to help you realize this isn't as big as the big screens there.
But Army, Marines, Air Force, and Navy are blocking it. Okay,
So that's important here. But hopefully you'll be able to see that okay. All right.
Well, what do we first do when we go to pray? Well, first of all, you need to have the Word of God. You need to have a diary with you.
You need to be in a quiet place, if at all possible. You need to be awake. Not in your bed.
Worst place possible for devotions. But it's so comfortable. Exactly.
Okay, so get up if it's the first thing in the morning. And whatever it takes, but get awake. And get into a good place that you can regularly have your materials there.
And the first prayer, before we even get into this, and this is very important, you need to pray. Spirit of God, would you enable me today to pray? Now, this is a big help.
For without me ye can do nothing. Did you know without him you cannot pray? Now you can pray and cry out and God will hear you.
But if you want to fellowship with God and draw nigh to him and meet with him, you've got to have the one given to you to bring Jesus into reality to your life. You've got to have him in control, and you need to ask him to empower you to pray. Did you get that?
Don't just go rushing into prayer. Take a moment and realize you've got the third person of the Trinity in you. You're not sitting there alone.
You're not just a person just sort of crying out to God that's way out there somewhere. No, he's in you, and you need to acknowledge him, and you need to ask for the very help that he has promised to give you. He's your comforter.
He's the one called alongside. He's the one that will teach you and guide you. Isn't that wonderful?
Now, honestly, that's what makes the difference. You're not alone. You have the Spirit of God, and you're communing right off the bat.
So please remember, write that right there on the top of your outline. probably next time we print these we ought to put that in big bold letters. Ask the Spirit of God to help you and depend upon Him as you are depending upon the vine for the power to be able to do this.
You can't pray and fellowship with God without the energy of the Holy Spirit. Everybody got that? Okay.
And so if you'll notice these are in five minute increments with two ten minute increments. and I'm just going to quickly go through these because we want you to have an opportunity to pray here prior to lunch. You notice this is strategically placed, not after lunch, okay?
It's strategically
placed before lunch. Don't think about lunch. I shouldn't even have brought it up, but anyway, that should work well.
Well, you want to start off with five minutes of worship and praise,
And this is where you glory in God's unique greatness. Oh, I tell you, you've got to get past your limited little look at yourself and everything around and the world seems so big. And you start meditating with the spirit of God's enabling about how big your God is.
All of a sudden, you're going to realize, whoa, this is amazing. This morning, as I started into my five minutes, and for a little bit of the time, I focused on His omnipotence. I just had preached on that here.
We're in a series on the attributes of God. And I'm telling you, a thrill went through my heart. There's something we're praying about, and today's a big day on that.
And I just realized, wow, God is omnipotent. He's all-powerful. Why am I even concerned?
God can do above what I can even ask or think. And I'm telling you, that just thrilled my heart. And that's what happens during this time.
You just meditate. Now, if you go to that section in the back, or it's right after your page in the Christ Walk Journal there that has the outline, this worship and praise, I'll put it up there. Look at all the attributes that we've suggested for you to have there.
This is just a guideline. And it'll be a big help to you just to have these there. the scriptures and you can add to them but this is a good starting place i mean to think folks about god being the creator he's the mighty god he's the everlasting father he's the prince of peace he's the king of kings all the rulers of this world are nothing compared to him he's the lord of lords he's
the almighty sovereign he's the god of majesty and providence he's the alpha and omega the beginning in the end, the author and finisher of my faith. He's the Lamb of God. Someday we're going to come before Him and bow before the Savior in glory.
He's the true vine, the way, the truth, and the life,
the door, the bread of life, the light of the world. There are so many glorious aspects to who God is. He's immutable.
He's immortal. He's infinite. He's eternal.
He's omniscient. He's
He is pure. He is faithful. And on and on I could go.
All wisdom and truth come from him.
Love, mercy, long-suffering, gentle, good, patient. Grace is overflowing. His forgiveness is complete.
That's our God. And there are just so many aspects to the attributes of God.
When I just sort of mentioned a few of those attributes, my heart gets stirred. Because, See, we think so puny. That's just the way we are.
Our human mind really is finite, as powerful as it
is. But you let the Spirit of God bring you into a consciousness of who God is, and you worship Him, and praise Him, and start meditating, and write down. Now notice back in your pages there on the diary, you need to take one of the attributes and write down in that one section before you go to the next section, and I really want you to do that today.
Hope you have a pen or something right there
in hand. And you can write one of the attributes this morning, the omnipotence of God, His greatness. He can handle anything, and that's where I would be.
And so that's going to be very important to
write it down, because when you write it down, it makes the difference. All right, that's the first five minutes. The second five minutes is waiting on God.
You go back
to that first page there, you'll see that. And this is a very important time when you focus on your relationship with God through the persons of the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. You need to yield to Him in this hour of prayer and expect to meet with Him.
Now let me just talk about this for a minute.
There is a very real Spirit of God in you who will make Christ real, and He will make the Father real to you. And so you need to realize, I'm not just praying to something ethereal. God is not up there way past the clouds.
He is in
me. God is omnipresent. He is wanting to reveal His spiritual presence to me.
By the way, don't look for emotions.
Emotions will come, but emotions are very human and can come and go. you're not looking for an experience you're looking for that deeper spiritual reality and you'll learn for instance you can have the peace of God when you're crying I mean I've had some tragedies happen we've had some tragedy here this summer and we've cried and still had peace because the spirit is okay I've had joy in the midst of pressure
because Jesus was ministering to my spirit. And so don't look for emotions and for some kind of physical experience. That's one of the dangers, by the way, with emotional music, because you can substitute an emotional experience for a spiritual reality.
And then, if you'll go to the section there in the back here, it helps show you some important verses about the Trinity. And learn and develop God the Father, God the Son, God the Spirit. Every morning just as I think about the Lord, He's my Father, Abba Father.
He has a perfect plan for me. He holds me in His hand. No one can pluck me out.
He is constantly protecting me.
He is a wonderful Father. Some of you that may struggle with having a Father that's saved, not saved or whatever, listen, you've got a heavenly Father that loves you and you can dwell on that. And you have the Son of God, Jesus Christ.
He's the one that is your great high priest. He wants you to come boldly to the throne of grace to find help in time of need. And He is the captain of your salvation.
And the Spirit of God,
your comforter, enabler, He'll guide you into all truth. And on and on we can go. And you can look at that and meditate on those realities and just let the truth of who God is come over your heart.
And I can tell you
folks, if you let the Lord work, those 10 minutes go just like that. In fact, I always say, never enough time. Because there's something about it.
God made you for
Him. And when you have a heart that's open, your spirit, all of a sudden, this is what I'm made for. And the Spirit of God opens your heart up.
And again, don't look for an experience, but just meditating on God is like the balm in Gilead coming across your soul in the midst of the pressures you're in and maybe some of the heartaches you're going through, all of a sudden you realize, I'm okay. I've got a God that loves me. It's a big deal.
Now, the next five minutes is confession. And you might say, well, shouldn't we start off with confession? You'd think that, yes.
But you don't even know how to confess if you go plowing right into your prayer time. You need to meditate on God, who he is, his attributes, let the Holy Spirit work in your heart. And by the time you get to the confession time, two things.
You'll know what to confess. And number two, you'll believe God can take care of it. But if you start with confession, it's all going to be what we call introspection.
You're looking at how bad you are. No, you need to look at how great God is, that He's provided for your forgiveness. Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.
He loves you. He will empower you. There's hope.
And it changes that five minutes of confession. And so allow God to convict of sin specifically and receive the full cleansing, thus allowing you into His presence. Now in the back there we have one list here that can be a help to you from Oswald J.
Smith. And Sunday has several different things. For instance, today on Friday is worldliness, lack of restoration, and fear.
I went over these this morning. I have these and other lists that I just go over to make sure I'm not missing anything. I'm not trying to be introspective, but I want my heart to be open with the Lord.
And there can be a very healthy way to look at that. And you can develop other lists. Your youth pastor can help you and others, and it's good just to go over the different aspects of your life.
What does confession mean? It simply is to say the same thing about your sin that God says about it and to realize Jesus paid for it. When you say the same thing and admit it and your heart is open to God, how long does it take for God to forgive you and cleanse you?
No time at all. When you asked Christ to save you, how long did it take for you to get saved? You got saved immediately, didn't you?
It's the same thing. And so when you confess your sins, he's faithful and just to forgive you your sins and to cleanse you from all unrighteousness. Some of you today are just weighed down with stuff you're afraid to confess.
It's so tragic because when you walk with God and you are open and you let the light come in as we've been hearing about, and you say the same thing as God, you can leave that five minutes free. There's liberty there. You have a clean heart and you can claim it.
You know what? When there's nothing on your conscience, that's, I mean, you feel, I just want to remind you when Scrooge, we have a Scrooge, a Christmas Carol production, he gets saved in our production. He doesn't just get reformed.
And he's light as a feather. We always get a kick out of that. Everybody loves to watch the Christmas Carol to see that final moment.
Well, we can live kicking our heels all the time, folks. You're free. You're forgiven.
I mean, you're completely forgiven. Man, I'm telling you, that is just a glorious thing. All right, next five minutes.
And believe me, this will go quickly if you let the Spirit of God work. And that's spiritual warfare. Now, you've taken care of sin at that point, as best you know how.
Don't go digging. Just let God show it to you. If it's on your mind, you'll know it.
And spiritual warfare is when you take your stand by the authority of Jesus against the devil. So you get confession taken care of, and then you take your stand against the evil one. And back again in the book here, you have some help on that, spiritual warfare.
Remember, you're in a battle. Submit yourselves, therefore, unto God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Now, young people, I'm going to tell you, Every time I'm going in the hour with God every morning, this section is a very real section. One of the things as you go through life, and in my case having the privilege of being in ministry all of these years, I am very aware of the fact that Satan is very real. All you have to do is look at the world and see it.
But you know his attack on ministry, and you know his attack personally, And you realize that you cannot go unarmed into life and think you're going to make it. You're no match for the devil, but you've got the Holy Spirit in you and greater is he that is in you than he that is in the world. You're either on the bottom of the pile created lower than the angels, or you have God in control of your life
and you're above all principality, power, mind, and dominion. I don't know about you, but I don't want to go through a day on the bottom. That's why you get stepped on.
That's why you do the crazy things you do. I can't tell you how many, probably thousands of times, people have said to me in the office, I can't believe I did that. I never wanted to do that.
Well, their flesh was worse than they thought, and Satan was more powerful than they thought. And so this is a chance for you, a wonderful opportunity, as 1 Peter 5, 8 says, Be sober, be vigilant, for your adversary the devil is a roaring lion, Lion goeth about seeking whom he may devour, whom resists steadfast in the faith. And God will give you great victory.
God will overcome the wrong kind of thinking. 2 Corinthians 10. You have the great privilege to have the armor of God on.
And you need to recognize that the devil is defeated. And 1 John 3 says, For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. And I want you to get a hold of this, young people.
In you is the Spirit of God. He joins you to Christ, who's at the right hand of the Father. And you are in Christ, who has full authority over all demonic powers.
You have nothing to fear every moment that you're spirit-filled. I respect Satan's power because I know he's created and he's very subtle, but I don't have to fear him because I fear God. And God will always win the victory if I'm right with God.
Do you see how important it is to be spirit-filled? Listen, young people, some of you have done some things and you just think, I can't talk about it because it's just so bad. Listen, anybody you're going to talk to about it will understand because they know how powerful Satan is.
But you have the choice to trust God and not allow Satan to have that victory in your life. So this is a very important time to take your stand for yourself, for your family, for whatever ministry you're working in. Take your stand for other areas and you can resist the devil and he will flee.
We'll move on quickly now. The first
20 minutes are very important for you. The next one that you'll find there in the outline is claiming promises. Recall the promises of Scripture that God has quickened to your heart.
Stand by faith on the ground God has given you. Can anybody quote a verse that God gave you when you had victory or had some direction in your life that means something to you? Whenever you hear it, it has a personal meaning.
Anybody have something just quickly come to mind at all?
a verse that you just hold that you hold on to maybe it's how God's called you to do certain things somebody's got to have a verse college students you can do it yes amen that means a lot doesn't it that's personal for you yes yeah you can count on that grace that's a promise every time that will work yes ma'am what's that i am with thee all right now see that what starts happening as you pray
god will begin to make the word of god come real to you every time a promise clickens your heart and you're encouraged by it and you take courage because write it down in the promise area I've got a whole list of promises. I went through them all this morning. And I'm telling you, every time there's things we're praying about, things we have prayed about, things that I'm believing God for in my life,
and I go over those promises, they explode with meaning every time. Because God personalized that promise to me. Now this section will take a little time to develop.
But as you walk with the Lord, this will become more and more of a precious time to you. And then we have the first 10-minute section. That's intercession and petitions.
And here you write down in a prayer list. We have in the back here, you'll note the beginnings of a prayer list for you. And you can utilize this.
You have family, missionaries, friends, people you're burdened about. We have what we call the top ten list. We have our Bible studies, our Sunday school classes, people we're praying for there.
Our top five list, people that are lost that we're praying for. And you would be amazed in ten minutes when the Spirit of God is leading you, if you'll continue to work on your list and especially rotate it through days and so forth, you can pray for a lot of folks. But the first thing you can pray for is your needs.
God will always take care of your needs. He has promised to give you your daily bread. And the things that are on your heart, you can petition God for that.
And then start interceding for others. You don't really help you with your parents if you'll pray for them. Your brothers and sisters won't be so frustrating if you pray for them.
Now don't pray or work them over so they're nice brothers and sisters to me. Wrong prayer. No consuming on your own lust.
as James chapter 4 says, but really get your heart. Listen, pray for somebody maybe at school or in your neighborhood that you almost feel like is an enemy because they really pester you. Well, pray for them.
God will change your heart.
That's what the Bible says. We are to pray for our enemies. We are to bless them.
And that prayer time of praying for people will transform how you look at life. And so I wish I had time to talk about how to develop the list. But again, people that are your leaders can help you with this, and it can be extremely productive.
There are just many different ways to do that. But that 10 minutes, I'm telling you, you have a lot of folks you can cry out to the Lord for, claim promises for, and your prayer for them will make a difference. Do you know that kid across the street that you think, man, they'll never get saved once you start praying for them?
Every time you pray for them, God does something in their life. You may not see it, but God does something. People that you love, like your grandparents that aren't saved, don't give up because they're not saved.
Pray more and more, and God will convict every time you pray. Someone in your youth group that really is struggling, pray for them. And I'm telling you, when you see the victory, it will thrill your heart to see what God can do.
That's what thrills me all the time. Go down and listen. Man, God worked here.
He worked over here. God has delivered here. This is amazing.
And when I don't see it yet, I believe that he's doing it. And I am confident that he's going to work. Ten minutes.
And then you have a five-minute Thanksgiving time. Thank the Lord specifically for his working in response to your prayer. Now, you need to…
I do several things here. First of all, you just want to claim that what you prayed about, God's going to start thanking him. I like to go through in my mind all the things that I just prayed about that were key to me and thank the Lord that he's going to do it.
It's really exciting. And the Holy Spirit will confirm that in your heart. You begin to get some real confidence that God's going to work.
And then you want to thank the Lord for what he did for you the day before. I like to start at the morning, go all the way through the night, and just thank the Lord for all the little things. You know, we forget it.
You know, you do things for folks, and though you shouldn't want thankfulness from them, you know, when people just don't seem to care what you do, it's a little hard, isn't it? Well, you can imagine the Lord now, nothing too hard for Him, but it certainly glorifies Him and we thank Him. And then the third thing is praise Him and thank Him for the things you don't like.
The trials that you're going through. Count it all joy when you fall in the diver's temptation. And you know what will happen?
You say, Lord, this is the situation I'm in. Give me the grace. I'm going to thank you for this trial.
I can't see right now how you're using it, but I believe you're going to use it, and I thank you for it. And you know, even there, God will start giving you wisdom as to why he's working when you have that kind of attitude. And it just gives you an anticipation that God is going to work.
That's a sweet time. That five minutes is just a wonderful time to just thank the Lord. Tell him how much you love him.
realize how good he's been. Do you realize how good he's been to you young people? You start thinking about it.
Right now you could spend a half hour just talking about how good
God's been to you. And if you can't that means your attitude's wrong and you've got something you've got to get right. Then meditation and discovery.
I wish I had time to talk about this.
This is the second of the 10 minute sections. This is when you take part of your Bible reading and you meditate on a chapter or two and you look at what it's saying, you ask God to help you really understand it and you look for what God is telling you. Now one thing I didn't mention by the way on the diary there, you need to be filling something in after every five minute, ten minute section.
So always write something down. That is so important. But especially here, you'll notice on this part of the diary that there'll be a verse or two where God speaks directly to you about some attitude you need to change, something that God wants you to do, and you need to take the verse, write it down word for word right out of the Bible.
Then take a moment while you're praying and write it in your own words. That simple way of meditating will be really helpful to you. Because putting it in your own words will make the meaning really grab a hold of your heart.
And then, in the next section down, you notice right below where the box is, where you write, they just put the green around it there. That is going to be your next section. And you need to put your I will statement there.
the I will statement is Lord I will tell my parents about this because God dealt with you about that okay and so you make a definite I will do that today so that's your I will statement or I will give out a tract today maybe you had a verse that talked about giving the gospel or I will attempt to invite so-and-so to church. But something very specific, put it in that section there that is called
listening. And so spend that 10 minutes just meditating on the Word of God, write out a verse, rewrite it in your own words, get an I will statement, and the Word of God will really come alive to you as you read that through. Then number nine is a five-minute section, let God show you to take to obey His Word and His leadership in prayer.
This is where you go over your I will statement. It's also, Lord, what would you have me to do today? It's amazing to me all the wisdom that God gives during this time.
I don't know how many thoughts for messages I've got, people to talk to, how to do the I will statement. That's a precious time where you just let God, now that you've been for 15 minutes praying, you really have a chance to know His voice Know what he's telling you to do. You need to determine, who am I going to share this truth with?
You know, Family Altar is a great place, if you have that in your home, to share what you learned. Or with one of your, maybe your Sunday school classes. Or you can share it with someone at school.
You say, well, that's not really cool to do that. Well, make it cool. Okay?
I'm telling you, what a blessing it is. It gives you an opportunity to talk about the Lord. Never be ashamed of the Lord.
Listen to what he has for you. And then the final five minutes, praise and singing. Go over what God has taught you.
Just praise him for who he is. Rejoice in that. And then sing some.
You say, well, get private. I told you that. That's fine.
Your parents won't mind hearing you sing. And I'm telling you, singing does something. That's part of being filled with the Spirit in Ephesians chapter 5.
And in that song or songs, they'll go through your mind all through the day. Now, folks, do you think God might do something in your heart in that kind of time? Have you noticed that when we spend 45 minutes preaching, God does something?
Because what are you doing that whole time if you're staying awake? You're letting God work in your heart. Something happens, doesn't it?
Well, what about God preaching to you for an hour? And you talking to God for an hour. Now, again, that's why I said don't do it in your bed.
That's not going to work. Don't get into a big, comfy, lazy boy chair that goes like this, okay? Make sure that you're serious and that you ask the Holy Spirit to work.
All right, we want to put this into practice. Now, we're limited on time. I didn't want to shortcut this.
So we're going to take just a few minutes for each of the sections, not the full amount of time. And so we're going to start here in a minute. And I want you to stay right where you are.
If you want to spread to the side sections, that's fine. Just be right where there's not a lot of room here. You can actually go to one of the back chairs if you'd like, but you need to stay right where your squad leader can see you.
And so I will, out loud, every couple of minutes, depending upon how I sense things are going, we'll move from one section to the next, just to give you an idea of how this flows, okay? So what's the first thing you're supposed to do when we go to prayer? What was that?
Worship and praise. Worship and praise, but before worship and praise. Ask the Spirit of God to help you do what you can't do.
I know what you're thinking right now. I don't know if I can do all that. No, you can't.
Of course you can't, but God can. Nothing like having God help you. Remember, doesn't the Spirit make intercession for us?
Doesn't the Lord Jesus ever live to make intercession for us? Listen, this is real. God will do something for you.
So at this moment, we'll allow you to take some time here. And so just go directly to the Lord. Let's don't talk, of course.
If you just have to go out to the restroom, fine. But try not to lose this time at all here. And I'll let you know when we are finished.
Just listen for each step of the way here.
